Starlight and Moonlight

Evening sinks down upon Solhaven Bay,
And the last flickering sunlight goes dancing away.
Now the three moons rise up to claim court in the sky,
And if I could ride moonlight, then my heart would fly --

Drenched in the moonlight, I'd take wing and soar
Toward the distant horizons that knew me before.
By soft moonlight's caress, I would glide on my way,
And no mortal or immortal would bid me, 'Stay --'

When the sun dances over the water,
There stars shine, though no stars grace on high --
When night falls, starlight drowns in the ocean,
But the stars glitter on in the sky.

Legend says only the mad ride on light --
Well then, let me be mad, on this crazed, lonely night.
With my reason reduced to a spectre of dream,
I would ride to his arms on the moonlight's last gleam.

Jackal be cheated of His ordained prize --
I was driven quite mad by the look in his eyes,
Twas the passion I saw there, the starved, gentle touch,
And a heart that's endured of pain, far, far too much --

When the sun dances over the water,
There stars shine, though no stars grace on high --
When night falls, starlight drowns in the ocean,
But the stars glitter on in the sky.

Moonlady, could you spare one lass your Gift?
Let my body be formless, my heart and soul rift --
Driven moon-mad by distance, and racked with despair,
I could ride on the moonlight with wish-wings of air.

Asking myself: does he dream of my name?
I could shrug off the boundaries sane souls must claim --
I would step into moonlight, dissolve as I go,
And reform on his lashes and lips as the snow.

When the sun dances over the water,
There stars shine, though no stars grace on high --
When night falls, starlight drowns in the ocean,
But the stars glitter on in the sky.

Rain strikes my cheeks, tempest winds lash my face,
Though the heavens are empty of cloudwoven lace --
By the indigo ocean, I pace and I dream,
Almost able -- just almost -- to touch the faint gleam...

Hope drives me out of the Moon-maid's domain,
Yet I creep back, insensible with fear and pain.
Is there cost I wouldn't offer to go to his side?
...yet the voyage I seek is revoked and denied...

When the sun dances over the water,
There stars shine, though no stars grace on high --
When night falls, starlight drowns in the ocean,
But the stars glitter on in the sky.

Sunrise and sunset roll slowly on past
And I dream of a ship, and a love that could last.
Sea shades ripple from midnight to azure-blue sky,
But the stars sparkle still, no illusion or lie.

Days passed to months, and to years, long ago.
When will my joy return? Only Jastev could know.
But the moonlight won't lift me to take wing and roam,
So I trust for the day that the sea brings him home.
