Yes, yes, we know that it's almost summer now (tongue planted firmly in cheek). We've experienced a host of delays with the Winter and Spring issues of the Times and for that you have our most humble apologies.
Luckily, though, we're working hard to get things on track. The Spring issue is nearly complete and should follow this one shortly. After that, we'll be back on schedule and we're shooting to have the Summer issue out in late August.
And, that brings us neatly around to submissions. Yes, we need them. We need lots of them. The more we get, the faster we'll be able to put out future issues of the Times. BUT, we need all submissions to follow the submissions guidelines.
We need the submissions, if they're fiction, poetry, or whatnot, in a format we can read and not have to spend hours formatting. We also need you to EDIT YOUR WORK before you send it. We've been getting a LOT of submissions that have needed extensive editing. So, please, try to spend some time editing your stuff. Don't just send us the first draft.
Graphics submissions should be in raw Photoshop format, or in a JPG format. Make sure you include all the header information from the submission guidelines in the text of the email to which you attach the picture. We'll do the rest. If you have a black and white line drawing that you think would look neat given an old sepia tone, just tell us, we can change it. Vurkanaan is good at that kind of thing.
Try to keep the pictures as large as practical, as well. It makes them come out better in the end and although the download and upload time might be extensive, it'll give us better art in the end and keep your work looking its best.
Speaking of art, we should probably address the types of art we're looking for... Portraits are always good, but, we're getting a lot of them. The Portrait of Elanthia page is the one we worry about least, content-wise, when we're putting the whole thing together. What we'd like to see more of is small, ornamental artwork, or pictures to go alongside articles we use in the various sections. If you're interested in doing this sort of illustration and can do it at the last minute, send us an email using the links below, along with a few samples of your work.
For other types of submissions, or ideas for regular columns you might have, just like the submission guidelines say, we can't evaluate the strength of an idea without seeing a sample of what you have in mind. Send it in just like you would any other submission, along with an email telling us how often you'd like to write the column and we'll get back to you. Believe it or not, we definitely want to have more regular columns.
Send us those submissions!
Enjoy!
