Respect for the Hard-Working Thief?

Where have all the honorable thieves gone? I'm not talking about the would-be-merchants looking to make a quick spot of coins by scamming an innocent buyer, nor am I referring to those item stealers who steal boxes or misplaced items. These are not thieves, these are crooks. No, I am talking about those stealthy folks who lurk in the shadows, using cunning and grace to quietly filtch a few coins from their coin purse then move onto the next room with their "mark" none the wiser... .

Letters by MorandasWhat has become of our society, when item thieves and scam artists outnumber those hard working idividuals who have to live of their hard working fingers? When they are beset upon by everyone in town, shunned because their job is lightening the pockets of others?

I am outraged and appalled at this recent trend in Wehnimer's society. Empaths and Clerics still continue to heal and resurrect those petty thieves who prey on the innocent, yet when the simple coin thief asks for some help, they get the cold shoulder at best, a bind or yelling at worst. What is with this double-sided favoritism? How come the hard working coin thief is so seemingly undervalued such that they are portrayed as bad people, yet the scam artists and item thieves are simply treated as normal folks, helped in any way possible.

The world isn't the same as it once once, I am sorry to say. People have turned a blind eye to crime, yet brandish a burning torch into the eye of the hard-working thief, just trying to survive in this cruel, cruel world.

I woul' kindly like tae ask why th'cleric of the holy temple we cherish and love in the Landin' has yet tae receive the proper trainin' needed for the holy service. The number of clerics who can perform rituals tae bless the weaponry of magical power, such as the common vultite weapons, grows every day. Yet the church has'nae the capability tae do such wonderous works.

I'd also like tae comment on the careless use of magic in th'town. The constable's office has served th'town well in protectin' innocent folk from th'rampages of ill-handed magicks. However, it's quite th'common thing tae behold usage of th'ever so popular "Quake" spell wit'out any punishment from th'justices. I'd like tae see this fine press and establishment make a point tae see justice served.

Yr humble srvt,

Pallidar Vigori, 14th Elanthian Rgmt.

In my many travels across the lands I have witnessed many a strange and wonderful thing. I have had the good fortune to enjoy much of what other towns and cities have to offer and the opportunity to meet many interesting and wonderful people. Much to my dismay though, something that stands out in my mind from many of the cities, is the predominance of distaste or downright hatred for the Landing and its citizens by the people of the other cities. Many a time I've relaxed, resting up for my trip home, only to hear comments like "I m glad to be home from that flea market they call the Landing". Having grown up in the port town this is very distressing to me.

While I agree that the landing has more selling, con artists and people some may consider rude, it is also twice the population of the outlying towns. I wonder if the other towns were to grow in population if they to wouldn't notice a growth in crime and the rudeness of the overcrowded streets.

Maybe we should look past the bad and find the good, not only in the towns but in the people of these towns, each town has their heroes such as Lady Myste who has risked the depths of Darkstone castle to pull out those that have fallen, Lord Tenser who travels the lands offering free enchants to the younger folk, and my lovely wife Lady Daeffodill who offers familiar hunts with enchanted armor prizes to those in Icemule. An act of generosity or a kind word goes much further and will be remembered far longer than words of hate.

Corrections:

I believe that there was a typo in the Spring Edition of the Elanthian Times Imaera's Glade Column. I believe that Yabathillium Fruit can give you up to 50 units of blood rather than the 10 the column states and that Cuctucae berries give 10 units rather than the 50 mentioned in the column. Other than that I liked the paper and am looking forward to the Summer Edition.

To Whom It May Concern:

I been livin here for more years than my Giant mind can count and I still have yet to see the Town Gates of Wehnimer's Landing be outfitted with a lock, or at least some hinges to close them! Put them tax silvers to work! There are more than enough people in this town who would be willing to help, so get to it! I don't want to see anymore troll kings or mein golems just casually strolling through our gates!
